What if I am pregnant?
If you have never done yoga before or this is your first baby, you should join the Pregnancy Yoga class at Seven Winds taught by Lara Dunlea. In these classes, you will practise
gentle yoga postures appropriate for pregnancy as well as breathing exercises, relaxation and visualizations to help you give birth with joy and confidence. Yoga can help you understand how to tap into the powerful birthing resources inherent in your body. If you find the connection between yoga and childbirth an intriguing concept, read more.
If you are already experienced with yoga and have a regular, established practice, you can continue in any of my classes, according to your level of experience. I taught pregnancy yoga for many years and can help you modifiy and adapt your practice for pregnancy. Though many poses need to be avoided, there is still much that you can do. Some women (especially those already experienced with childbirth) prefer to continue with a regular yoga class during pregnancy, as they want to maintain their personal practice as deeply as they can, within the limits of safety. Self-practice classes are particularly suitable, as everyone practises according to their unique constitution. Many students at Seven Winds Yoga have continued in regular yoga classes throughout their pregnancies and found them extremely beneficial. Others love the pace and supportiveness of Pregnancy Yoga, which is particularly tuned to the special energy of pregnancy.
