What should I do before coming to class?

  • Arrive on time!!! All classes start promptly. The door is open twenty minutes before class starts. Come then so you have plenty of time to get settled. Leave your shoes on the rack outside the yoga shala. Your jacket and handbag you can leave on the shelf inside. The shala floor should remain uncluttered. Only keep with you that which you need for the practice.

  • Make sure you have had a good meal early in the day, but do not eat at least three to four hours before the practice. You will not be able to practise properly if you are still digesting food. A light snack (fruit, yogurt) is OK up to an hour before practice if you are hungry, but preferably your stomach will be empty.

  • Come well-hydrated. Make it a habit to drink plenty of water during the day. You should not drink a lot right before the practice, however.

  • Turn off your phone! Yoga is sacred time. Everyone needs to make a clearing, keeping distractions outside and giving full attention to the yoga. Allow yourself this peace and spaciousness, and you will feel the benefits!

    Om Shanti
