What should I wear/bring with me?

  • Clothes: The shala is well-heated, so no matter what time of the year you can wear light yoga clothes. Ashtanga is a hot practice. Be prepared to sweat! Shorts or leggings and a small top are appropriate. Hatha classes are not as hot, but you still won't need more than leggings and a T-shirt. Save the jumpers and cardigans for coming and going. Your clothes should be fresh and clean, and you should be as well. Bathing before spiritual practice is a traditional rite of purification, and a good idea if at all possible.

  • Jewellery should not be worn during practice, except for wedding rings and other small pieces that won't get in your way. Please put your jewellery in your hand bag during yoga class! Jewellery left on the window sill or floor more often than not gets left behind after the practice.

  • Mats: I have sticky mats to get you started if you need one, but you should buy your own mat as soon as possible. You will need it for home practice, and for hygenic reasons it is better to use your own mat. See me for recommendations if you are unsure what to get. For ashtanga, a cotton mat spread over the sticky mat is useful if you sweat a lot.

  • A sarong and eyebag are great for savasana! Covering the body, and particularly the eyes, helps you sink deeper.

  • A small towel for ashtanga is handy if you sweat a lot.

  • Yoga is always done in bare feet!

    Om Shanti
