Which class or classes should I do?
Ideally, all students would come at least twice a week and practise at home on the days in between. You decide for your life-style how close you can come to that ideal. Seven Winds classes are adaptable to everyone. If once a week is all you can do, it is certainly better than not at all!!!
The Hatha Flow class is the place to start, but many students prefer this style of practice and remain in this class for years. Here you learn basic poses, with careful attention to alignment and principles of practice. You learn flowing sequences that you can practice on your own, as well as sequences focused upon hip-opening, back-bending, balancing poses, arm balances--a bit of everything! You will also learn the basics of ashtanga. Hatha Flow is not just for beginners. Pranayama, long holdings, meditation and advanced poses are all a part of this class.
Led Ashtanga teaches the ashtanga sequence up through navasana. Here you will be led through the series, with careful attention to the breath and counting. Though this class is not offered every term, students new to ashtanga can always learn the practice in the traditional manner through self-practice classes.
Mysore style self-practice classes are for those who know how to practice on their own. New students receive individual instruction and are soon integrated into the flow of self-practice. Hatha Flow students who know their sequences can also practise in these classes. The meditative, transformative power of asana practice finds its fullest expression in self-practice classes. Here the yoga flows from your own deepest centre.
Two Mysore classes a week is recommended. You will receive individual guidance as well as physical adjustments specific to your needs. You will learn new poses as you are ready for them and be encouraged to deepen and progress in your practice. Advanced students wishing to practise intuitively will be supported in whatever poses they wish to explore.
Om Shanti
