So what is Shakti Rasa anyway????
Shakti Rasa Yoga and Meditation is NOT yet another new style. Rather, it is an approach to yoga practice. Powerful asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, inner stillness and spiritual enquiry form the core of this practice. In that sense, the practice is thoroughly traditional, based upon the classical teachings of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, as found in the ancient scriptures.
Yet Shakti Rasa turns to the inner guru for guidance. It is a direct path. Shakti, the creative, manifesting, primal energy inherent in all things, provides the guiding spirit. Rasa, which means taste, flavour or experience, provides the measure.
Shakti Rasa Yoga and Meditation will help you discover your own path through the sometimes bewildering injunctions and dogmas of various teachings. True to the wisdom of ancient tradition as received through the great gurus--living or dead--yet attentive to the discernment of the inner guru, the voice of Spirit within: this is the essence of Shakti Rasa Yoga and Meditation.
What to expect from the Shakti Rasa asana practice?
- Close attention to breath, which infuses all movement, and bandhas, which seal in the energy
- Vinyasa krama sequences that integrate natural flow between poses as well as long-holdings for depth and awareness
- Focused sequencing designed to unlock physical, emotional and energetic blocks in common areas of tension: hips, back and shoulders
- Flexibility and adaptability to suit individual needs and encourage the development of an intuitive self-practice
- Meditation techniques integrated with asana, utilizing dristi, sambhavi and more
- Challenging as well as restorative asana
This retreat is not for complete beginners. You should have some knowledge of the basics of asana and a desire to learn (or deepen in) the practice of meditation. However, it is open to all sincere practitioners from any tradition, eager to experience the benefits of a powerful personal practice suited to their unique constitution. It is particularly appropriate for those with an established Ashtanga Vinyasa practice who would like to explore related methods of practice.
Please bring:
- A simple lunch for yourself; a selection of teas will be provided
- Something to cover your eyes with in savasana
- A meditation shawl
- Loose, warm, comfortable clothes to put on after the morning practice
